Tanaman porang adalah jenis umbi-umbian dengan nama ilmiah Amorphophallus muelleri. Porang mengandung zat Glukomannan yang sangat tinggi dan zat Oksalat sehingga banyak manfaat dan kegunaannya untuk kebutuhan pangan, makanan kesehatan, farmasi dan kosmetik serta banyaknya manfaatnya sehingga tingkat permintaan akan tepung porang tidak terbatas. Hal ini menjadikan tanaman satu ini sangat bernilai ekonomis yang sangat tinggi. Tanaman porang mulai viral sejak tahun 2019 dan lebih viral lagi tahun ini 2020 meskipun sebenarnya jual beli umbi porang sudah ada sejak zaman penjajahan Belanda. Hanya saja waktu itu, masih kurang yang tahu bahwa tanaman yang tumbuh liar ini punya nilai jual dan berharga di negara Porang awalnya tidak ada yang budidaya karena banyak tumbuh liar bahkan di anggap hama di lahan pertanian. Seiringnya waktu, tanaman porang liar selalu di ambil untuk di jual ke luar negeri maka sudah mulai berkurang dihutan-hutan sementara permintaan akan porang terus meningkat maka sejak sekitar 10 tahun yang sudah mulai beberapa orang membudidayakan di halaman rumah mereka. Dua tahun terakhir, yang membudidayakan porang tidak bisa terhitung lagi terus miningkat seiring tersebar luasnya potensi tanaman ini hampir setiap daerah Kota kabupaten sudah mulai terbentuk komunitas-komunitas petani porang salah satunya komunitas petani porang jawa barat. Tanaman porang adalah tanaman yang secara habitat alaminya tumbuh dan berkembang mengikuti musim hujan dan kemarau. Tanaman porang akan mulai tumbuh pada saat awal musim hujan dan dorman mati batang pada awal musim kemarau. Selain letak geografis yang strategis Jawa Barat juga di untungkan dengan masa musim hujan yang lebih panjang ketimbang dengan daerah lain musim hujan lebih cepat dan musim kemarau lebih lambat.
